Analysis of Spatial Models and Geographic Transformations

Abstract
This book proposes an innovative analysis of Olympic urban planning in general, and of Olympic Villages in particular, which will both consolidate the field of study that Olympic urban planning represents and offer a helpful synopsis about the future construction of new Olympic Villages in the coming decades. The work aims to disseminate knowledge and propose new models of Olympic Village management in the post-Olympic period.
The Olympic Games have created a major urban transformation, which allows for a new critical perspective on public services and management measures. The following book examines spatial patterns, considering their impact and intangible benefits within the host territory. The impediments or possibilities induced by the provision of Olympic accommodation can be observed by observing the spatial patterns of the Olympic Villages. The Olympic Villages are at the centre of Olympic planning, as they are the legacy of the Olympic event for the citizens (della Sala, 2022). Therefore, my PhD research aimed to demonstrate how socio-urban implications, impact, legacy and sustainability are key aspects to be considered in the planning and evaluation of the Olympic Games. Through the analysis of the Olympic Village, the following book will describe the main obstacles related to creating a new district considering the existing connections within the future Olympic City. The project involves an interdisciplinary methodology that, through a critical analysis approach, aims to develop a new way of studying Olympic Villages. The investigation shows how cities are expected to benefit from these intangible benefits, which result from successful Olympic bidding and infrastructural development.
Furthermore, by observing spatial patterns, the reader will be provided with new tools to analyse and study Olympic accommodation during the 20th and 21st centuries. Only through implementing new strategies and philosophies will cities and regions be able to take advantage of the intangible benefits of the Olympic Games. Furthermore, cities can drastically reduce the criticality induced by speculative phenomena and the abandonment of housing estates by considering the Olympic Villages as the centre of urban planning.
